Wonder Woman: 9 Signs It Will Redeem The DCEU
9. There's Humour
One of the biggest criticisms against DCEU's movies is their perceived lack of fun and humour. Both BvS and Suicide Squad had touches of levity and comic relief sprinkled throughout their runtimes, but at not nearly high enough a volume for audiences and critics conditioned by Marvel movies to expect loads of quips. If the DCEU wants to get on the good side of its critics, it has to prove that it can deliver genuine laughs to go along with the comic book action mayhem.
Wonder Woman's trailers have signalled that DC intends to take a page from Marvel's playbook and make audiences laugh at how ridiculous the concept of a superhero can be. A streak of tongue-in-cheek humour enlivened Wonder Woman's ads, especially the material centred on Wonder Woman's sidekick Etta Candy.
Until now, DC films have lacked comic relief characters and the addition of a legitimately funny supporting player could help make the DCEU more palatable to critics. The best part about the addition of Etta Candy to the DCEU's roster is that she's genuinely funny. The jokes in the trailers actually landed without feeling forced or groan-inducing, which is a great sign for the franchise's future.
