20 Recent Movies EVERYONE Knew Would Suck
4. Afterburn
Even though post-apocalyptic actioner Afterburn is based on a modestly successful graphic novel, it's rarely a good sign when an adaptation takes the better part of 20 years to get made.
Indeed, Afterburn began development in 2008 with Tobey Maguire attached as a producer and Gerard Butler set to star, but this iteration ultimately never came to fruition.
Progress stalled for more than a decade until, in 2024, it finally began shooting with Dave Bautista, Olga Kurylenko, and Samuel L. Jackson in the lead roles.
During post-production, the film's producers sued one of their financiers for fraud, and as is almost never a good sign, Afterburn ended up getting a quiet international release before its dead-silent U.S. theatrical bow.
Couple this all with a sizable $60 million budget and Dave Bautista's rather lacklustre project choices as of late, and it was easy to predict the outcome.
Outside of some passable practical action, Afterburn was a snoozily generic thriller primed to tumble into the abyss of quick-forgotten genre streaming content.
