This one has been anticipated ever since James McAvoy took over the role of Charles Xavier from Sir Patrick Stewart. It's something of a surprise that hes kept a firm grip on his follicles up until now, but with this part of the journey nearly over for the younger cast of mutants, the balding of Professor X is surely looming in X-Men: Apocalypse. By turns a groovy, free-spirited geneticist, a drug-addled waster who lives in his dressing gown and sleeps in a cloud of dust, and conflicted friend and mentor, we havent actually seen McAvoy playing Xavier straight quite yet. Obviously it would have been dull to watch a 20 to 30-odd year old nerd piously preaching to people his own age for two films but theres no doubt that now's the time to see the real Xavier step up and close the gap between McAvoy and Stewarts portrayals. A snippet of footage right at the end of the trailer that was shown at Comic-Con earlier this year confirmed that Charles will indeed be bald and wearing a more traditional suit by Apocalypses end, but who knows at just what point in the movie the professor will grow up. I'm guessing after a pretty harrowing ordeal and a whole lot more personal loss.
