X-Men: Dark Phoenix WonderCon Footage - 10 Reactions You Need To See

10. It's Darker Than The Rest Of The Franchise

The mainline X-Men movies have been pretty bleak at times (Magneto's family being murdered, anyone?), but according to the Nerds Of Color, Dark Phoenix is going to be the most foreboding and mature of the lot:

"The first footage was epic X-Men action. Showcasing some of the best team work the group has seen in this franchise. The second was classic X-Men vs. Brotherhood conflict, building up to a really dark and ominous tone in this film, versus the rest of the installments."

The site is referring to a moment in the second clip that was screened for WonderCon attendees, in which Jean Grey starts to telekinetically crush Magneto's metal helmet while he's still wearing it, causing him to yell in pain. Ominous? Definitely.

The movie will also feature a major character death (as given away by the second trailer, and confirmed by director Simon Kinberg soon after), so it does appear as though Dark Phoenix will live up to the former part of its title and feature a rather gloomy story for the X-Men.
