10 Most Awkwardly Titled Movie Blockbusters In Recent Memory

5. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008)

Seriously, what would be wrong with just calling this movie Madagascar 2? Most high-profile animated sequels tend to just add a number after the title (Toy Story 2, Shrek 2, How To Train Your Dragon 2 etc...) to keep things simple, but Dreamworks decided to slap on a subtitle that isn't just awkward, but doesn't make any sense either. Even Madagascar: Escape to Africa would have been better, although let's be thankful they didn't decide on using the cringeworthy working title of The Crate Escape. Eugh. Using the number 2 instead of the word 'to' is one of those irritating Hollywood trends that thankfully seems to be quietly disappearing, but that's not even the worst part of the title. The nonsensical subtitle implies that the characters in the movie are making an escape to Africa, right? Well, they're not. The island of Madagascar is part of the continent of Africa, so in the first act of the movie they are trying to escape from Africa and fail, winding up in.... Africa. You'd think somebody on the creative team would have noticed something so glaringly stupid when they were coming up with such a lazy title.
