Half-Life was a revolutionary FPS from the moment it started, as gamers were introduced to the Black Mesa Research Facility in the supremely ground-breaking manner of travelling through it on a tram. The 5-minute sequence gives Gordon (and the player) an extensive view of the facility both inside and out, complete with some amusing visual easter eggs, namely the brief appearance of the G-Man in a neighbouring tram. This virtuoso sequence, entirely in-game and allowing the player to walk around the carriage at will, has been widely acclaimed by critics and players ever since release, giving gamers a perfect lead-in to Gordon Freeman's worst ever day at work. From the moment the game began, players everywhere were hooked in its vice-like grip, and gaming has never been the same since.
