5. Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess - The Dark Links

Twilight Princess – easily the darkest entry in the series – is surprisingly unsettling, consisting of disturbing imagery, mature themes, and unnerving narrative implications. In particular, the dream sequences are especially memorable, depicting three shadowed versions of the protagonists, watching him from afar – each representing one of three interlopers, a tribe of sorcerers imprisoned within the Sacred Realm after failing to realise a hostile takeover.

In the game, the interlopers make several appearance, tormenting the protagonist through nightmarish imagery, and while they only resemble him, their shared appearance heightens their emotional impact on the player. There are also some interesting speculations regarding their appearance, as well as their motivations – and although the interlopers are never encountered in direct combat – their inclusion is one of the most defining moments from the entire game.

They’re also creepy, really creepy.
