Earthbound is, by large, a cutesy RPG that masquerades as one of the greatest SNES games of all-time. Instead of wowing audiences with pretty graphics and intense battles with swords and shields, Earthbound cleverly satirises and parodies American Culture whilst incorporating sci-fi elements, and unconventional, quirky humor. Swords were replaced with frying pans and yo-yos, big green monsters being replaced with Klu Klux Klan wannabes, and hamburgers replacing healing potions. Theres even a character named Poo in the game. Since the games slightly underwhelming release 19 years ago, the gaming world has been reintroduced to the game by having Ness kicking Picachus ass with a yo-yo and by rereleasing the original game through the Wiis Virtual Console. This resurgence in popularity makes Earthbound ripe for a long-overdue remake. The game's light and relatable characters stands in contrast to the dark and gritty characters used by most games today outside of Mario. The game's meta-humor, clever satirical parodies, and whimsical quirky tone (until the final battle) will help draw in people who have not heard of Earthbound before whilst making the remake stand out from the rest of the gaming pack. It's one thing to have Ness set Mario on fire in Super Smash Bros, but it is another to have Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo in their very own HD remake.
