6. The Mario Universe Is Home To Demons

Hidden away in the far corner of €˜Shiverburn Galaxy€™, watching over the player, a group of mysterious figures can be seen looming over the area. They can only be seen from a very particular angle, and only if the player switches to first-person. At no point will the figures move; they just stand there, seemingly content to observe Mario from afar.

In the game€™s files, these figures are labelled individually as €˜Hell Valley Sky Tree€™, despite €˜Hell Valley€™ not being the name of the level, and the figures clearly not resembling trees. In Super Mario 3D Land, a similar figure can be seen towards the end of World 4-4, standing around in the background near the flagpole. Again, he doesn€™t move; he€™s just there, and the game doesn€™t acknowledge his existence even once.

As such, many have speculated that the Mario universe is actually populated by shadowy demons from another dimension, clearly fascinated by the actions of our titular hero. In Mario Galaxy 2, they€™re all the way in the distance, barely visible. In Super Mario 3D Land, they€™re obscured, but much closer.

So, the question is - are they coming to get us?
