10 Awesome Video Games That Came From Terrible Movies

5. King Kong

Sure, King Kong wasn't absolutely downright terrible in cinemas, but it was nothing to write home about either, merely ticking the boxes of a Kong flick in a manner similar to if you asked a child to recant the major parts of the plot. For the game though, you played out many of the spectacles from the film in a very visceral first-person view, taking potshots at all manner of enemies and indulging in a generally pretty thrilling island adventure - as well as playing as Kong himself a few times for good measure. Going far deeper than the movie into Skull Island, the sky-high production values actually required you to rely on the game's exquisite sound design to tell when you were out of ammo or about to be set-upon by an enemy - a really neat touch that's actually not been implemented elsewhere. A 360 launch title was a pretty unlikely place to find one of the best movie tie-ins of all time, but Kong excelled in expanding on all the best parts of the movie that were previously thrown to the wayside.
