10 Best End Credits Songs In Video Games

Who went out with a bang?

End credits and songs have long gone hand in hand.

From the female leads of Neon Genesis Evangelion belting out "Fly Me to the Moon" to the Life of Brian cast entreating the viewer to always look on the bright side of life, having a good song playing as the credits roll is a surefire way to elevate the last moments of the experience, whether it be a film, TV show, or video game.

Video games in particular have been blessed with some of the best tunes to have ever played out over a credits sequence. This particular list encompasses Gaelic ballads, pop songs, some truly inspired licensed music selections and one of the funniest songs in this or any other medium.

For the purposes of this list, only one song per franchise was included. (This was mostly done to stop the list being flooded with Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid entries. Say what you like about Kojima - the man knows how to pick a tune).

And just for fun we'll be putting our favourite lyric from each song at the bottom of their respective entry.

So, which songs made the list? The "Answers" await...

10. Answers (Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn)

Yep, that previous sentence was an unashamedly cheesy lead-in to this entry. But given the song, "unashamedly cheesy" feels like the appropriate tone to aim for.

"Answers" is many things. Bombastic, melodramatic, overwrought and filled with lines like "Our souls have been torn and our bodies forsaken", it is a monument to extravagance and excess in songwriting.

It's also *clears throat*, absolutely f***ing brilliant.

Sometimes, you just want a song that pushes everything up to 11. No shame, no restraint, no "ooh, this may be a bit much". "Answers" fills that need perfectly - an aural tour de force that will take you on a journey from "This is ridiculous" to "This is AWESOME!" across its seven minute run-time. (Yes, the 5-minute video above is actually a shortened version of the song. Like we said - "extravagance and excess").

Favourite lyric - Now open your eyes while our plight is repeated / Still deaf to our cries, lost in hope we lie defeated. A sentiment many a football fan can relate to.
