Even the Mac library has been greatly improved. Long considered to be the redheaded stepchild of gaming platforms, OSX can now boast a broad range of high-rated games. This surge in attention to the Mac’s gaming library is undoubtedly due to the popularity of the Apple brand, however, there has also been increased attention from developers to create games with OSX in mind, as well as efforts from companies such as Feral and Aspyr who take PC games and make them playable for the Mac.

Granted, the Mac will never become the gaming machine of choice for any gamer, but it is good to know that if you do find yourself stranded somewhere with only your Macbook for company, you are able to play some great titles.

This list covers a broad range of genres, from indie to triple A, all available for gaming’s most neglected platform.

10. Mafia III

Mafia III places you in control of a Vietnam War veteran seeking revenge for the murders of his adopted family. Set in a fictionalised version of 1960’s New Orleans, this third-person action adventure lets you make your way through a meandering story involving the mob, civil rights and a lot of guns.

The game looks fantastic. The sprawling city, dark swamps and detailed character models are all clearly the result of high production values from developer Hangar 13.

However, you will need a fairly new Mac with a decent graphics card to fully benefit from these triple-A visuals. It is great to see a high-budget, graphically impressive game running Apple hardware; however, the game itself leaves a lot to be desired.

The game is the usual open-world gameplay we’ve come to expect from the Mafia series. The problem is that the game has not developed as much as it should have since the first. The open-world is never used to its full potential, and the game quickly becomes repetitive and unimaginative.

If you are looking for a good-looking shooter on your Mac, then Mafia III is the game for you. However, if you expect more engagement and originality from your games, keep searching through this list.
