10 Best New Female Video Game Characters Of The Decade

3. Aloy - Horizon: Zero Dawn

As we enter the top three, we start with bona fide protagonists. Yes, you can main Tracer and play as Ciri, but when it comes to Aloy, it's clear her game belongs to her. Voiced by Ashly Burch, making her second entrance her after also voicing Chloe Price, Aloy is the leader of a bold new IP that's sure to go from strength to strength next decade after a brilliant debut in 2017.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is fantastically creative, looking forwards and back, both in terms of setting and development style. A post apocalyptic game chronologically but with a dawn of civilisation, tribal tone, the game borrows from Uncharted, Assassin's Creed and Tomb Raider while adding its own fresh spin on things.

With humanity having been wiped back to their early days and self replicating machine animals roaming the earth, it's fair to say there's a lot going on. When you add in that Aloy has been an outcast since birth and is actually the clone of humanity's only hope, there's a big danger of it feeling overstuffed.

Thanks to some great writing and Aloy's breezy style though, it never feels bogged down or heavy.
