Square Enix (Formerly Squaresoft) are one of the biggest game developers and publishers in the world. They are responsible for games that regularly top lists devoted to the greatest games of this world and yet, recently, their stock has been on the decline. Their games are dropping in quality. Even major franchise Final Fantasy has had the lowest ratings the series has ever received and finally, only in the last few days, they trolled the world with the apparent remake of Final Fantasy VII on PS4 being nothing more but a HD PC port. How many of you were genuinely annoyed at this? Be honest. But how many know and remember just how important Square are to the industry? Especially the JRPG industry? Since that remarkable merger with Enix in 2003, Square - now known as Square Enix - purchased Eidos in 2009 and absorbed an enormous amount of games. You have seen the Square Enix logo for the first time playing a game like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the new Tomb Raider or even the latest Hitman game for example. Now under the all-encompassing umbrella of Square Enix, games are being released left right and centre by the Japanese giant, and they seem to have completely forgotten about gems like Parasite Eve and Bushido Blade from their past. Yet the company, just this year, declared their intentions to return to their roots and develop the games that made them great. So here are ten that made them the market leader of the RPG genre, as well as being those they can look back on if they ever need guidance on how to make another one for the ages.
