10 Best Video Game Characters Of The New Generation
6. Big Boss - Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Sure he was playable in with his new title in 2010's Peace Walker, but the Big Boss of the new generation is a completely different character to that of what's gone before.
Speaking of which, what was quite happily going before was David Hayter's voice performance, something that has now been replaced by 24's Kiefer Sutherland who insists on doing his breathless delivery on every line. It robs the character of the charm seen through MGS 3 and Peace Walker, but that's also entirely the point. It seems creator Hideo Kojima is gradually filling in the blanks in his own canon, which means that in the lead back up to the re-introduction of Solid Snake, it could spell the return of Hayter once again.
Until then though we've got Kiefer's more intense performance that some favour as oppose to how throaty Hayter was becoming in Peace Walker, as he seems to be going for more of a 'less is more' approach; barely uttering any lines and letting his actions speak for themselves. And when those actions range from springing two hostages out of a secure base and almost single-handedly making sure his team makes it out alive when their base HQ is attacked in the close of the game, that's just as awesome.
