It feels appropriate to provide Tim Schafer's brilliantly bonkers game with a platform to shine given that despite glowing reviews and a strong response from those who actually bothered to play it, Psychonauts failed to sell well and resulted in its developer, Double Fine Productions, suffering financial troubles. Still, it's one of the best games of the PS2 era, with a brilliantly weird story, compelling characters and hilarious dialogue to boot. The game reaches its nutty apex during The Milkman Conspiracy level, a nightmarish suburbia in which the neighbourhood watch, demonic girl scouts and black helicopters are all out to get you. It's probably the longest level in the game due to the abundance of puzzles, but I'm not complaining; it's one of gaming's classically satirical levels that also presents plenty of challenge too.
