10 Best Xbox Series X Games (So Far)

The best games you can play on Xbox Series X right now.

By Andy Murray /

When the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles released one year ago, they did so with impressive new features and a whole lot of computer power to kickstart the ninth console generation. Xbox’s Quick Resume, for instance, made jumping from game to game a seamless experience whereas PlayStation’s haptic triggers brought a whole new level of immersion to gameplay. And that's not to mention the ability to now play games at a buttery smooth 120fps.

The hardware is certainly impressive; however, both Sony and Microsoft’s new platforms have been lacking when it comes to games exclusive for the new generation, with Microsoft especially falling short in this regard. While PS5 owners can treat themselves to Demon’s Souls, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Deathloop, there are currently no titles exclusively available on Microsoft’s newest machines.

But that doesn’t mean players can’t enjoy some amazing video games on their Series X console. Thanks to Microsoft’s vast selection games optimised for Xbox X|S, Series X owners can get the best out of their current library of Xbox titles.

If you’ve got a Series X, here are the games you need to try out right now.

10. Twelve Minutes

An engrossing and tightly written thriller from the mind of veteran game artist Luís António, Twelve Minutes is an indie gem that’s currently only available on Xbox and PC.

The premise is genius in its simplicity. A time loop mystery that takes place over a period of – you guessed it – 12 minutes, this title sees players take on the role of an unnamed husband (James McAvoy) as he returns home to his small apartment where his wife (Daisy Ridley) has a special meal and surprise waiting for him. Moments later, however, an assailant (Willem Dafoe) breaks into the house and, after a heated confrontation, kills the husband at which point the loop resets.

It’s up to players to use the limited items at their disposal to gain new information to solve the overarching mystery. And once the first of many hard-hitting revelations are uncovered, Twelve Minutes ventures into the kind of captivating and gut-wrenching tale that only be told as a video game.

Available on Game Pass for Xbox One and Series consoles, Twelve Minutes optimisation for the newer generation of consoles means that it will play best on Series X consoles.
