Shenmue was a game ahead of its time released on a console that was far from ahead of the game. Featuring what was extremely advanced graphics at the time, Shenmue could be seen as the captain of the sinking ship that was the Sega Dreamcast. The game's protagonist, Hyo, could interact with an incredibly well-realised game world, one that featured a day-night cycle, unprecedented dynamic weather effects, mini-games, fully-voiced NPCs that each followed a specific schedule and one of the earliest examples of quick time events that didn't suck. Though the saga was never completed, Shenmue remains to this day one of the most influential games ever made. Although Sega has been kind to the PC platform in the past, it hasn't been nearly kind enough. True, some of the Dreamcast's biggest hitters - Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure, and Jet Set Radio to name a few - are already available on Steam. However, there's one juggernaut, a lone figure standing in the darkness that needs a second chance. That game is Shenmue. And who knows? Maybe if Sega sees enough support, they'll finally get back to making that Shenmue MMO.
