10 Controversial Gaming Moments In 2013

7. GTA V Is Sexist

Grand Theft Auto has always been heavily criticized as misogynistic and that isn't up for debate here: it's a struggle to even name many lifelike female protagonists that weren€™t just an object to have sex with or essentially stupid outside of the feisty Catalina from GTA 3. Continuing along with my overarching point though, you should know what you€™re getting into when you play a GTA game. 85% of the charm is the freedom to be a total psychopath; whether it€™s murdering someone because they cut you off on the road or picking up prostitutes for a quicky, only to murder them because you want your $10 back. Furthermore, similar to a violent Scorcese film that explores darker lifestyles, this taboo nature is what sparks interest in the story. I am NOT saying that a female protagonist couldn€™t work, but Rockstar seems focused on exploring lives of organized crime, which are often realistically subjected to sexist material. They shouldn€™t be scrutinized for depicting plots grounded in a degree of reality. And at the end of the day, if you don€™t like GTA don€™t play it.
