There's no getting away from it; 2014 was a very naff year for gaming.
brilliant titles worth your attention, but it does mean that they only appeared amongst a swathe of disappointments, ranging from broken servers on launch day to horrifyingly-hilarious creations like characters' facial features not loading in. Even Ubisoft's new port of Tetris didn't work on the PS4 without chugging along or glitching out every few minutes - seriously, something that worked on the original Game Boy 25 years ago has a better performance and overall experience than the half-grand box of potential nestling under your TV. Now that, is cause for concern. Truly a dark time was had by all then, but like reaching the bottom of a pool and kicking back off the floor, there's a great amount of momentum to be exerted that can help propel everything back to where things should be. Sure it's hard to imagine there'll be another Last of Us, Bioshock: Infinite or GTA V round the corner like last year, but all the same there's everything from Batman: Arkham Knight to The Witcher 3 already etching themselves into the record books if you want something substantial to look forward to. It'd take quite the gargantuan effort to dethrone the mighty Dark Knight, so here's to hoping the industry sorts out its core foundations so that both he and the string of other titles can be received as warmly as possible.
