10 Cult Classic Video Games That Deserve A Sequel
10. Stranglehold
Although a sequel to John Woo's Stranglehold has been in the making previously, it never saw the light of day.
That's a big shame, especially considering how fantastic the arcade-y gameplay mechanics of the first game were. Despite some pretty dated visuals, Stranglehold holds up surprisingly well because of how legitimately fun it is to play. The use of 'Tequila Time', destructible environments and unique power-ups are all a big reason for this.
Leaked concept videos of the sequel to Strangehold, titled Gun Runner, showed that the sequel would be a completely cooperative adventure featuring Chow Yun Fat and Vin Diesel. Although the gameplay shown doesn't much resemble Stranglehold, the idea of using the environmental destruction of the first game with a second player is truly exciting.
It may not be a game insistent on delivering an amazing plot with layered characters, but it certainly manages to be an entertaining shooter nonetheless. We need more games that we can turn our brain off to.
