Many game franchises have come and gone over the years. Some have withstood the test of time, receiving new entries, remakes and reboots, even after decades since the original. Sometimes a beloved series is thrown to the side, left to gather dust while loyal fans pray they're eventually shown some love once again.

The likes of Assassin’s Creed, Halo and Final Fantasy are all examples of where games can stand the test of time and adapt to suit the interests and needs of modern audiences.

For The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, for example, it has become one of the most influential open world titles of all time, proving that even franchises that are decades old can still bring new things to the table.

Some IP has been less lucky, being cast to the side for many different reasons. Perhaps the last entry was a commercial failure or received extremely negative reviews. Some studios have shifted focus to ensure profitability and certain game series have been left neglected in favor of an online, live service.

Let’s take a look at bygone franchises we wish would come back with new entries for the newest generation of gaming.

10. Silent Hill

Originally developed as Konami's answer to Capcom's smash hit horror game Resident Evil, Silent Hill spawned many sequels, prequels, spin offs and movie tie-ins. Some entries are better than others, with Silent Hill 1 and 2 widely considered two of the most influential horror titles of all time.

Compare that to the latest, muddled entry Silent Hill: Downpour which was underwhelming in every way and received poor sales and reviews to boot. When Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro announced they were partnering to produce a new Silent Hill game, fans were ecstatic, only to be let own once again when Konami scrapped the project.

That was back in 2014 and Silent Hill has been... silent ever since. Although recently horror developer Bloober Team announced that they had partnered with Konami to create a new game, leading many to speculate that this game will indeed be Silent Hill.

Some fans are concerned with this potential new entry, as Bloober's catalog of horror experiences have been met with mixed reviews.

With horror games still selling many copies and remaining popular on YouTube and Twitch, it is a perfect time for Silent Hill to return on next generation hardware.
