10 Disappointing Sequels To Iconic Video Games

5. Devil May Cry 2

Devil May Cry's beginnings may very well have been as a failed attempt at what would later become Resident Evil 4, but the cult following it created is possibly more hardcore than the aforementioned survival horror series.

Fans of Devil May Cry are passionate, and years before the vocal displeasure at Dante's makeover with Ninja Theory's underrated(!) reboot, there was yet another criticism to be had of the series.

The much anticipated Devil May Cry 2, was easier, less innovative and featured a far more boring Dante than the first adventure. It's a rare blemish on the series' otherwise solid resume.

Devil May Cry is known for its exciting, frantic gameplay, prioritising glitzy hack-and-slash over plotting sword swipes and precision dodging. In the second game, it failed to achieve either. Not only was it too slow to feel - and look - fun, but it wasn't precise or strategic enough to justify the reduction in speed. Thankfully, the ship was righted with the third game, getting back to Dante's roots with a great prequel story.

The original wasn't broken, but Capcom set about fixing it anyway, resulting in a disappointing entry into a series that should be anything but.
