10 Most Disgusting Ways To Die In Gaming

By Thomas James Hunt /

7. Halloween: Atari 2600 1983 €“ Beheading

It may look completely laughable by today's HD eyesores, but back in 1983, this was terrifying. Halloween for the Atari 2600 was released a good few years before I was born, but it was one of the first games I remember. You play as the babysitter €“ which anyone who has seen Halloween would assume it's Laurie Strode €“ but we're never given a real name. The aim of the game is to rack up the most points by saving the children you're babysitting, whilst evading dear old Michael Myers. A simple premise, but that's Atari for you. On the video, skip to 1:22 for Laurie's death. So what could possibly happen in Atari level graphics to make a disgusting death? Well if you're unlucky enough to get caught by Michael, he chops your bloody head off. Not only that, but little sprays of pixelated blood shoot out of €“ your now €“ open neck as you hysterically run around like the cliché headless chicken. I think I'm right in saying €“ and an episode of AVGN has said before €“ but this is probably the first beheading in videogame history. Also, I'm pretty sure it's the first game where you can actively slaughter children. Food for thought.
