For all the flak Cyberpunk 2077 gets, the story is actually half-decent when it comes to a close. Now, of course, this doesn’t excuse the game being busted hell on last-generation systems almost 6 months later, but at least the twist is pretty neat.

The turn in the story comes at the end of Act 1 of Cyberpunk where Jackie and V come out of a job in the worst way. Jackie doesn’t make it and V is left for dead with a certain personality chip stuck in his head. It turns out this chip contains the consciousness of the legendary rocker-turned-terrorist, Johnny Silverhand.

Taking this chip out would kill both V and Johnny, so for the entire game, the player does their best to hopefully save the two, but in the final moments, it becomes clear that this just isn’t going to happen.

Only one of the endings seems to be a slightly happy one for V, but even that is finite. Some let Johnny survive, but in the end, nobody can help V from fading away into cyberspace.
