6. Final Fantasy X

The world of Final Fantasy X is a rather bleak place, but it can also be beautiful at times. If it were completely bleak, fans would have been too depressed to continue on; yet, Square Enix€™s writers, artists, and composer worked together to provide us a world that€™s worth protecting. The futuristic planet of Spira boasts a tropical flair that€™s tantalizing to the eyes, the soundtrack captures the curiosity of life, and the inhabitants are able to set aside their distances for an exciting game of Blitzball. However, with these beautiful moments come devastating tragedies. Families are torn asunder thanks to the many fruitless battles with Sin, and the ruined city of Zanarkand, as beautiful as it is, reminds Tidus of his loneliness. The ending is especially devastating, somehow providing both a heartfelt goodbye between lovers and a reparation of a dysfunctional father and son relationship. It's as if Final Fantasy X's goal was to make its fans simultaneously cry tears of happiness and sorrow.
