The Deluxe Wii U launched in November 2012 for $349.99, yet all gamers had to do was wait another 12 months and they could get a PS4 for a whole $50 more, a console which completely smoked it in pretty much every department. With its not-particularly-cheap launch price, Nintendo nevertheless held steadfast for the better part of a year, refusing to drop the price in spite of abysmal sales figures. They did eventually start to offer some price drops leading up to Christmas last year, but $299.99 for a Wii U with two games was apparently not enough to drive players to the console en masse. Just today, various outlets have dropped the UK price of the Wii U premium bundle to £179.99 from £249.99, which will surely be a tempting offer for many, and if this can't help prop sales up, then it's safe to say that Nintendo literally won't be able to give them away soon enough.
