8. A Final Fantasy Game That Doesn't Involve Lightning

Square Enix are always going to push out a Final Fantasy game but the question remains - will we see one that doesn't involve Lightning? All we've seen since 2012 is Lightning and more Lightning as far as the main games are concerned, though this hasn't stopped Square Enix from releasing more and more trailers for future games. With the latest trailer showing off their new engine and graphical capabilities, it makes me wonder whether we might see a game that has a new set of characters. With this year's release being called Lightning's Returns, it may be the end of the XIII series, however things are still rumbling on other scenes. Square Enix have become mighty quiet about Final Fantasy Versus, which has been in development since 2006; couple this with Sony's inevitable announcement of the next PlayStation and the 2012 E3 demo of SE's new engine, and we might actually see a new series in the Final Fantasy franchise announced this year. Here's hoping, at least with a tight, expectant smile on my face, that it's a Tactics sequel.
