Perks and traits are the blood of RPGs, both old and new. The strength of your character can sometimes be completely dictated by what perks you unlock for them, and so it’s important to get the best ones.

In most cases you gain a permanent buff like this by leveling up your character or doing a quest. However, sometimes, a trait isn’t so obvious to acquire, and you will actually have to discover a well-kept secret in order to get it.

The rarest and most powerful perks are typically hidden. They require you to think outside the box, do things you wouldn’t normally do, or rise up to a challenge most people don’t even know exists. For this reason, only a select few players are aware of them, and even fewer have acquired them, which is quite the shame, considering they can be absolute game-changers!

The following traits are the biggest secrets of their respective titles! They can give you powerful abilities such as unique powers or stat buffs, but finding them can be tricky. If you need help discovering them, the following list will be your guide!

10. Sailor's Repose - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Unlocking new abilities and buffs for your character in Skyrim is typically a fairly straightforward process. Most perks in the game are unlocked during level-ups, and the rest can be obtained just as easily by following the objectives in their related quests.

However, there is one hidden perk that you have to figure out how to get on your own, and you better do it because it’s one of the best healer buffs in the game!

The perk “Sailor’s Repose” is the unmentioned reward that you can get for completing its equally hidden side quest, “Frostflow Abyss.” The quest can only be triggered accidentally by entering the mysterious lighthouse east of Winterhold.

The mission will have you investigate the mystery behind the murders of the lighthouse’s residents, and at the end, you will receive the remains of the owner, Habd.

Now, this is where the quest will officially end, but if you continue exploring the lighthouse and open the entrance to the top, you can burn the Habd’s remains at the lighthouse fire to gain the secret perk, “Sailor’s Repose,” that permanently increases your healing spells’ power by 10%.

Sometimes, it takes more than completing the quest to get the best reward!
