Goldeneye was a landmark title for the first-person-shooter genre when it was first released, but the years haven't been too kind on its old bones. Those blocky graphics now look weird and unsettling, the controls are stiff and hard to use, and the game can barely move if two people decide to fire rockets at each other at the same time. But rather than wait for the inevitable remake to roll around (which it did in 2010), a group of Half-Life modders decided to team up on an incredibly ambitious project. With a goal of reviving what many gamers still refer to as the best multi-player shooter ever made, the modders got hold of a modern Half-Life engine and gave Goldeneye a much needed overhaul. Eschewing the single-player component altogether, this remake focuses entirely on the original game's phenomenal multiplayer, bringing it up to speed with updated graphics, a better physics engine, and a smooth framerate. The modders went far beyond just a simple layer of polish, too. Not only can you play online deathmatch with many other Goldeneye lovers, the remake features an expanded roster of characters, completely new levels, and all-new game modes - the whole thing topped off with playable Daniel Craig in an Armani suit.
