10 Friendly Video Games With One TERRIFYING Area
Wait, this game wasn't supposed to be scary!
Being terrified is not everyone's cup of tea, which is fair enough. No one really knows why horror fans love getting the life scared out of them so, understandably, plenty of video games avoid fear altogether. You shouldn't find horror unless you go looking for it.
However, that's not always the way the cookie crumbles, and unfortunately for those gamers out there who have the constitution of tissue paper, not all developers are so kind.
There's a rich history of unexpectedly terrifying moments in friendly video games, with sudden scares and creepy characters all over the industry. However, while most of these moments usually come and go with haste, it's not so easy when you get trapped in an area that feels like a pure horror game.
Landing in a region that terrifies you is the kind of thing you either love or hate, but either way, you've got to progress through it if you want to continue the game. The following ten titles played to this tune masterfully, as they shocked gamers with entire areas that left controllers gripped too hard, sweat pouring down your back, and underwear ruined.
10. The Deep Dark (Minecraft)
Minecraft is, for many, the epitome of cozy gaming. Sure, there are tense and freaky moments, like surviving your first night, but there's nothing scary about Minecraft. Right? Well, that's not entirely true, as there's an area that certainly cannot be described as cozy: the Deep Dark.
You can find this bizarre underground biome beneath some mountain areas, and if you're not unsettled by it, then there's something wrong with you.
The area is dimly lit and full of a strange sculk material that seems entirely otherworldly. At first, you'll think, wow, this is so creepy, but at least there aren't any mobs. Sadly, that's where you're wrong, as this area comes complete with a stalker enemy.
The Warden is a terrifyingly powerful mob that will hunt you down for daring to enter its territory. Surviving against it is damn near impossible without a lot of luck and skill. Then, if you get past it and dive deeper, you'll find a horrifyingly empty ancient city.
Overall, this is a far cry from the game's typical relaxed fun.
