The most impressive aspect Naughty Dog's Uncharted 2 is that it doesn't really do anything new and nor does it even try to. The shooting mechanics are bundled together from loads of other third-person-shooters, the cut-scenes have a hint of Metal Gear Solid to them and the story could be straight out of an Indiana Jones film. What Uncharted 2 manages to do is bring together all of these elements and create a game that is not only exciting and brilliant but also far surpassed the first game in the series. Uncharted 2 isn't an industry innovator but it shows what can be done when a developer brings together all the right aspects of gaming. Uncharted 2 is a beautiful game to look at but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is going to be a good game, what makes it a good game is the characters, the story, the subtle use of humour and the fact that the game is a joy to play. Granted, most of these features were present whilst playing the first game but Uncharted 2 manages to take the series to a new level which was then replicated (but not quite beaten) with it's successor, Uncharted 3. Basically, Uncharted was a good game that made a decent platform; Uncharted 2 is the game that turned the series into one of the most acclaimed franchises of modern time and also gave Sony a new icon. If Uncharted 2 was a movie it would be a multi-million blockbuster in the same vein as The Dark Knight Rises, indeed the game manages a level of professionalism that is rarely seen in games. Reviewers at the time said that the game had the same appeal as a Hollywood film but obviously had an advantage as the consumer could interact with what was going on the screen. The fact that Naughty Dog were able to create a game that not only blurred the medias of film and game but was also incredibly fun to play is evidence enough that it should be on this list. What can be learned: If use aspects from other games, make sure you're able to better them. Honourable Mention: God of War 2 Similar in many ways as it launched a new icon and franchise for Sony. It practically re-launched the hack 'n' slash genre but just misses out on Uncharted 2 due to the fact that it wasn't so much of a surprise hit.
