Fundamentally not a bad game, so, why is on the list? Because, although it might be a good game mechanically, is it a good Silent Hill game? No, it is not. With controls that feel too clever, the game loses a lot of its core trickery - namely that weapons are supposed to be unwieldy and most of the characters who find themselves in the fog of Silent Hill are not trained marksmen or even particularly good fighters; the challenge is that you can't fight easily or effectively. Survival horror is the term. The main character of this game was of course a soldier, but if you can shoot anything to death and over power any enemy with relative ease, where is the suspense? Where is the fear? As a result of the smooth combat, this just doesn't feel like a Silent Hill game at all. The story telling was lacking and borrowed heavily from the movie, which as we all know wasn't a great idea either. Not an awful game, but not a good Silent Hill game at all.
