Though motion controls may be dirty words nowadays, the novelty of the Wii Remote made the console into a true phenomenon. Like Pokémon GO in 2016, major news outlets were covering the supposed health benefits of the Wii and acknowledging that video games were a thing that existed outside of stock eighties footage.

We've all got a friend who accidentally threw their controller into their TV or a story about your family suddenly deciding they were 'l33t gamerz' after they beat you at Wii Sports bowling. It's those shared moments that made it such a magical console.

Knock the Wii for its shovelware (and there was plenty) all you want, but 2007 saw the release of Super Mario Galaxy, one of the best games of all time.

Seriously, go dust your Wii off (or borrow your Nan's if you sold yours) and give Galaxy a go, even for half an hour. It's truly magical.
