When you've helped give the industry Counterstrike, influencing and shaping multiplayer shooters across the board, Half-Life 1 & 2, both games showing how to even do interactive first-person narratives, Portal, a mind-bending puzzle game and Team Fortress 2, an ageless cartoon shooter with great team mechanics, you've established a precedent arguably impossible to live up to.

Yes, Artifact only cemented what various fans had thought for years at that point: That Half-Life 3 was never coming, VR is the new focus at the studio, and between Dota and Steam, Valve are making enough money to rent out a private island if they ever want to escape the pressure.

Clearly Valve today aren't the same as they were last generation or the one before, and that's just sad.
