The first big twist in the Assassin's Creed franchise happens not too long after you hit the "start" button the first time you play the game. In fact, it happens immediately after. All the trailers showed up the story happening in the crusades, so it was a huge surprise when we found out right at the beginning that the whole thing was a computer simulation. And that the storyline of the game is a much more complex one. I really liked that they showed us this reveal at the beginning of the game rather than in the end, because if it was the latter case it would have been a very boring and annoying twist. The decision of showing it at the beginning of the game gave the opportunity to develop the rest of the characters, and the story that occurred in the overworld of the game. This is one of the cases in which a twist like this actually works.
