One of the most curious vaporware titles is Resident Evil 1.5, the given name for the original prototype version of Resident Evil 2, which was scrapped roughly 60-80% into production because the producer deemed it to be too boring. After the first version, set around the ruins of the Spencer Mansion, was ditched it was decided that, like the final product, RE 1.5 would be set around Raccoon City, and did actually feature Leon Kennedy as a playable character, alongside a new creation, Elza Walker, a character whose bio reads not too dissimilar to Claire Redfield. One of the coolest changes was the decision to render the zombies in lesser detail so that more could appear on the screen at once, making for a more terrifying experience (if at the expense of the visual majesty). The game also promised dynamic environments and character models that changed with the events of the game. Promising as this all sounded, it probably was for the best, as Resident Evil 2 is regarded by many as the best game in the franchise. Still, fan projects have resurrected the game in unfinished form after a beta copy was leaked online, so it is playable in some form.
