10 Hard-Earned Rewards Video Games Took From You Anyway

We just can't have nice things, can we?

The best thing you can experience in a game is the sense of accomplishment you get for being rewarded for your hard work. You put in the time and effort into something, so it only makes sense that the game would recognize it with a prize.

However, sometimes the reward for your hard work is a trap. The developers give it to you only so they can totally disappoint you when they suddenly take it away!

Yes, in some games, just because you took time to earn something, it doesn't mean you're entitled to it. You can put your blood, sweat, and tears into obtaining your prize, and even though the game will give it to you, it will be just as quick to take it all back.

From powerful gear that disappears from your inventory after you do the impossible to precious mounts that die after you spend the entire game protecting them, these rewards are a painful reminder that nothing lasts forever.

You better appreciate them while you can because developers don't like to see them in your possession.

10. Excalamune - Sunset Overdrive

Sunset Overdrive is a bizarre blend of Tony Hawk games with an energy-drink-infused zombie apocalypse that delivers the best kind of stupid fun.

The title offers the players a variety of weird and over-the-top weapons to take out the hordes of orange mutants, but for some reason, it apparently has a limit on how much firepower is too much.

The best weapon in the game, hands down, is Excalamune, a sword that your character creates out of nuclear power so that they can offer it as a gift to one of their allies.

Excalamune is the only thing in your arsenal with a mission that’s specifically dedicated to crafting it through very elaborate efforts. The hard work does seem worth it, however, as once you forge it and give it a test run, it can instantly kill entire droves of enemies with flashy lightning bolts and explosions.

It feels like something you don’t want to give away, and although your friend throws it away, making you think you might be able to get it back, this is just a cruel prank on you.

As soon as you pick Excalamune up, the blade breaks and loses all of its power.
