10 Hidden Ways Video Games Punished You For BREAKING The Rules
Play by the rules, or not at all!
Video games offer highly interactive experiences, which is usually why the only thing the developers can expect is that their players are going to do something unexpected.
A game can provide a set of rules and objectives, but most players will still find a way to rebel against the vision of the creator and do the opposite anyway.
Most of the time, you can get scot-free with your acts of defiance, even enjoying giving intended game design a big middle finger. However, not every game is so helpless against players with a rebellious streak.
Some of them will actually catch you red-handed and punish you for it. In the most painful way imaginable.
You might think yourself clever for disobeying the game's orders, but if you push its buttons a little too hard, it will retaliate. It can shut down on you, mess with your save file, or simply roast you so bad, you won't dare to defy it again.
If you're the type of player who likes to test boundaries, beware of the following games. They don't play nice with people who break their rules.
10. Children Are Non-Combatants - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare doesn't shy away from showing the horrors of real war alongside its typical action-packed first-person shooter experience, but there is one line that even Activision isn't willing to cross: child murder.
The mission "Clean House" is a unique operation in the game where you participate in a raid on a house suspected of secretly hosting Al-Qatala members.
The residence is indeed a safehouse for the terrorist group, but as you explore it, it turns out there are also some innocent civilians in there, including a mother with a baby.
When you stumble upon the woman, the game expects you to let her run out with the child, but you can choose to be an evil bastard and shoot at the helpless baby instead.
At first, the game will let you off with a game over screen and a message reminding you that "children are non-combatants."
However, if you still keep shooting at them afterward, the message will turn into a series of disappointed comments until the game finally gives up and simply quits the mission altogether.
Sorry, child killers don't get to participate in raids.
