Where most RPGs put you in the role of an unlikely saviour of the world, Mount & Blade taps into a more primal fantasy; rising up from nothing not to save the world, but to become the feudal lord of your own kingdom, with the ability to recruit armies, fight in massive battles, and take over rival kingdoms. Isn't that so much more appealing? The original Mount & Blade gathered something of a cult status among PC gamers over the years. The medieval RPG is possibly best-known for its massive-scale multiplayer battles, in which hundreds of players fight for castles using bows, arrows, horses and siege towers. The single-player campaign is equally epic, pitting you as a mercenary who makes a name for himself by fighting for various factions, before going on to become the lord of your own domain. Bannerlord is set in the fictional medieval kingdom of Calradia. The kingdom is in its dying days, and the player can choose to be an outlaw or join one of the five factions vying to take over the land. The battles will be even bigger than in the original, and major improvements are being made to the diplomacy and AI of the game.
