Details surrounding Ashen are irritatingly scarce since the game's announcement at E3, but from the few snippets of footage developer Aurora 44 have been kind enough to reveal so far, it's looking fantastic. Self-described as an action-RPG adventure in a world devoid of natural light, players are set on a path to find a place they can call home, safe from the beasts the prowl the wilds of the world. Part of the ID@Xbox initiative and clearly drawing inspiration from the hugely-popular Dark Souls, King's Field and Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons, Microsoft's commitment to indie developers having a platform to reach the consumer with the Xbox One could potentially be its most lucrative investment in years. Could Ashen be the next Journey or Super Meat Boy? The answer to that is impossible to know just yet, but initial details certainly peg the game as a unique and alternative experience - two things the Indie scene does best.
