Although it wasn't the first entry into the genre, the original Resident Evil was the title that really popularised survival horror games on consoles, delivering a classic haunted house full of frights and B-movie conspiracies. While the limited tech at the time - the tank controls, the fixed camera and the health system - all contributed to that isolating and off-colour horror atmosphere, the same mechanics feel particularly dated today - especially if you're playing the unrefined original PS1 release. Unfortunately, the clunky design and the dated graphics just don't really hold up in 2015 - and the awful voice-acting especially comes across even sillier than it did in 1998. Thankfully Capcom did do potential new players a solid with the GameCube/PS4 remakes, providing the industry with perfect examples of how a publisher can update their classic games to ensure that they remain timeless and iconic even decades later.
