2. Yunalesca (Final Fantasy X)

Another that isn't the final boss - but might as well be - Yunalesca is the biggest spike in difficulty in a game that until this point, was a pretty simple, fun ride.

Hard and challenging through attrition, Yunalesca has a staggering three separate forms, all of which replenish her health, remove any status effects you might have cast, and change up her attacks.

Forward planning means you're conserving items and MP for constantly shifting variables, as like many Final Fantasy bosses, she doesn't stick to a specific attack pattern.

Part pot luck and part item and ability management, Yunalesca might take the cake as the most annoying and arduous bout in Final Fantasy history.
