4. How Final Fantasy Got Its Name

Have you ever wondered to yourself just why Final Fantasy is called Final Fantasy? There are over 20 games spanning mainline entries, spin-offs of varying quality, mobile games, tons of merchandise, and more all covering a 25 year old and counting legacy. Yet its never the final Final Fantasy.

It was always intended to be a one-off creation by a Squaresoft who frankly hadnt put out anything to celebrate with acclaim. The studio was literally on the verge of bankruptcy and set to fold with Final Fantasy being their final title in production. Essentially, it was Squares Final Fantasy as far as developing games went.

I think we all know it turned out.
