10 Intense Video Game Levels NO ONE Beat First Time
2. The Flooded Hotel Basement - The Last Of Us
The Last of Us is a game designed to put continuous pressure on the player as they attempt to traverse the virus-ravaged world in one piece, and nothing else in either game quite matches the stomach-knotting intensity of the original's flooded hotel basement level.
The level sees Joel separated from Ellie after he falls into the dingy, wet basement of The Hotel Grand, requiring him to skulk around the impossibly creepy bowels of the building in order to locate a generator and turn it back on.
The 20-minute sequence is a maze of bleak, dark hallways you need to navigate in order to collect a keycard and switch the generator on, the latter action causing a fleet of Clickers to zero-in on your position, as well as a terrifyingly tough Bloater.
Getting back to relative safety is incredibly tricky and, even on top of the difficulty, it's an extremely unnerving experience from top to bottom.
Needless to say, everybody needed to take a break once they made it through this damn section.
