6. Gran Turismo 2

Sony set out to create the most realistic racing game the PlayStation hardware would allow with the original Gran Turismo, and while it succeeded, the game’s sequel tops the PS1 podium.

The original was built around authentic physics, stunning graphics and tonnes of content, and Gran Turismo 2 took all of these staples up several gears.

This is the game which changed our perception of what the PS1 was capable of, and the series has remained an effective showcase for PlayStation might ever since.

No doubt that will remain the case for every subsequent PlayStation console, until future self-driving cars advancements turn Gran Turismo into a glorified tech demo.
