Spoiled through sheer pop-culture status more than anything else, even those who are unfamiliar with Final Fantasy VII are aware of its most heartbreaking moment.
Aeris' death is without a doubt one of gaming's saddest story moments, but just because it reserves such an iconic status doesn't mean people should be able to spoil it so indiscriminately. People of various generations want to experience these stories untainted by their biggest plot-twists. Whilst you're unlikely to find someone today who's only recently been introduced to Star Wars, chances are they would've gone in with its biggest twists already enshrined deeply in the back of their mind. This means that not many people are going to get to experience these stories the same way people did when they first purchased them.
