10 More Video Game Bosses That React To You Being A Jerk
4. Mariko - Kareteka
A seriously deep cut now, with the 1984 martial arts game Kareteka, developed by future Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner.
Now in total fairness, Princess Mariko isn't supposed to be a boss - she's actually the protagonist's love interest you're supposed to liberate from the villainous Akuma's castle fortress at the end of the game.
However, after defeating Akuma - the apparent final boss of the game - players will be faced with one final challenge. If players enter Mariko's cell with a fighting stance, she'll respond by promptly kicking you to death.
The key to "victory" here is to adopt a non-threatening, non-combat stance, at which point she'll gladly accept your offer of rescue and open her arms for a warm embrace. The End.
It's really important to consider all this from Mariko's perspective - she's clearly been through fresh hell at Akuma's behest, and quite understandably assumes that any guy entering her cell likely has less-than-savoury intentions, especially if they open the door in a fighting stance.
