5. Act 3 Falls Apart - Gears 5
By all accounts, Gears 5 is the pinnacle of the franchise so far and hands down looks the best. The Unreal Engine has come a long way since the days of Unreal Tournament that’s for sure.
So why does the fifth major Gears of War game make this list? Well Act 3 is almost unplayable.
Gears 5 did what no other had done before and went semi-open world. Which on paper was a great idea, but it doesn’t seem like servers were up to it. Sadly for some reason, this instalment was cursed with the always online bug, even when two friends were playing locally.
So unless by the grace of the server god the game lets players through, they’ll be stuck surfing the red sands of Vasgar till Gears 6 eventually drops.
Looking back at this it is such a shame such a strong entry was bogged down by some players literally not being able to progress beyond this point. You have to wonder if this was worth the half baked idea and pray The Coalition don’t make the same mistake next time.
