Daybreak

In danger of being forgotten, what with Fortnite's complete public domination of the genre and PUBG staying in the headlines by... suing Fortnite, H1Z1 is a remarkably tactile battle royale game with a focus on vehicular combat.

Essentially discarded by the majority of critics as it occupies much the same realistic combat space as PUBG, H1Z1 has still amassed a sizeable following by being available on PS4. For my money it plays far better than PlayerUnknown's thanks to a much more intuitive control scheme, and runs far smoother and more reliably, too.

Developers Daybreak are still releasing patches and teasing features on a monthly basis, but as a solid-feeling military battle royale game that's free (!), H1Z1's blend of car combat, camouflage, FPS toggles and simplistic loadouts is a "Just one more match" itch-scratching phenom.
